I celebrated my birthday there last night and I enjoyed every minute. Everyone was on point. The food was great.

too much hype. Recently on vacation my sister and I decided to take my other Sister, Brother in law and 2 Nieces for a surprise bithday dinner at Miyabi. We called to make a reservation for 6:30, they told us they had nothing available for that time but they did for 7:00. This is the time we went with. We all arrived 10 minutes early and let them know we were there, they said they would call us when it was ready. 45 minutes and 2 very cranky children later we were seated, the man came around to take our drinks fairly quickly but even though we had a full table our Chef didn't show up for another 20 minutes. It is now 8:15. we had put in an order for sushi and when the chef came i had to go find our waiter and ask if it would be ready soon, he immediatley said oh im sorry and brought out a tray of warm room temprature fish. Dinner started, The chef was really nice and funny but im sorry I have been to many many steak houses and this one was mediocre at best when it came to the food. So after eveything was said and done we had one final dissapointment, I had paid a small extra fee to have a little birthday song sung to my brother in law and he got a cupcake. We were sitting and waiting, the other party had left at this point and we had already paid. the chef from the table in front of us turns around and says " oh so which one of you have a birthday " (thanks for the non akward surprise) a group of people show up, give him a plastic decoration with a candle in it (they said they ran out of cupcakes) sang him his song (took their weird plastic decoration thing back) and we ran out of there as soon as we could. I specifically choose this place because everyone said it was so awesome to bring kids to, well they can keep the cool fountain in the lobby and i will go somewhere else next time.

Best Sushi Around. Overall Miyabi's has a great atmosphere and a very personal staff. Dont be fooled by the "Japanese Steakhouse" title, they have the best sushi around. The fish is always fresh, the roles are innovative and delicious, and the Chefs will be calling you by your first name before you leave. Honestly, I've eaten Sushi for over 20 years and all over the country-- this Japanese Steakhouse in Columbia is the absolute best sushi I've ever had. I drive almost an hour each way to get this delightful treat--dont miss out!

Great Dining Experience - Bring your appetite!. Miyabi's offers an inexpensive escape from the day through a great atmosphere and wonderful food. The flavor and quantities of all their offerings from shrimp, chicken, steak, sushi, tempura and vegetarian meals are great. The atmosphere and energetic chef's who cook right in front of you are almost worth the price of the meal, and then you get to eat! If you love sushi, their's is the best in town. You may go to the quaint sushi bar or order it at the grill tables with dinner. Make sure you ask for the Shrimp Sauce (White Sauce). Great for birthdays and dates

If you are on a budget, they have Early Bird specials that end at 6pm during the week and 5pm on weekends. They have a kids menu. You may also choose to share. I am a large man and usually can't finish my meal which comes with the entree, fried rice, soup, salad and sorbet.

Note: If it is your first time, tell the hostess you are willing to wait to be seated with their "most fun" chef. All of them are good, but for your first time you want the best, not one who is on their first couple of weeks.

My favorites: Crunch Crab Sushi (it's cooked), the Shrimp/Steak Meal with teriyaki on the steak. I get the ginger dressing on the salad. Ask for different sauces to sample them in the dishes they provide, but the "white sauce" is good on everything.
