Service Ripoff Experts. Do not let these people into your house! They are true scam artists. Last year, we had problems with our AC blower motor. We made the mistake of calling "Service Experts- Midlands Heating and Air Conditioning." Had I been wise and read the previous reviews here and in other places, I would've run. When they came out they advised that the blower motor was bad and needed to be replaced. They gave me a quote around $700, but then said that if I purchase their service plan for $22.50 a month I could reduce my price for total around 600. Little did I know at the time, but they had put in a universal motor, that within a year, would shake apart the fan guard of my unit. three weeks ago, my unit's fan guard was literally ripped asunder by the vibration from their cheap motor. When they came out to replace their motor, they advised that the fan guard for my unit could not be replaced and I needed to purchase an entirely new AC unit. I didn't have the money to replace the unit, so they reinforced it and informed me that since the motor was a replacement under their warranty the new motor itself was no longer under warranty. This reinforcement lasted a couple of days and I called them back, at which time they advised me that the AC could not be turned back on because it would rip the coil apart when the fan blade flew off and hit it. we had no AC and all the while they denied that it was that was possible to get a new fan guard. Now my wife is a brittle diabetic and she became dehydrated due to the heat and slipped into diabetic ketoacidosis. At this writing, 15 days later she is still in the hospital.

At this point, I wised up and call a different AC company. with four phone calls I found a used replacement fan guard. I had it in a new fan blade replaced by a different company for $200. The company also advised that the fan motor that was in the unit was what they use for a temporary motor until they can get the original equipment part installed. I inquired as to the price to have an original equipment motor installed, I was told it would cost $500. This is less than Midland's ripoff motor that destroyed my fan guard.

Since I purchased the service plan, to obtain the discount on the motor last year, I had been visited three times by Midlands and was told that everything was okay with my unit. The new company, who fixed Midland's mistakes found that my drain pan was rusted almost through and that my heat pump and air conditioning unit (we have two units) were not hooked up correctly.

Wonderful scam artists!!!. I contacted Midland Air back in the fall to schedule an appt for them to come clean my heating and air unit. After all was said and done they stated they cleaned the unit (and I found out later it had'nt been even cleaned) and recommended that I put in a whole new unit because they found mold and stated my system was 60% blocked. They also claimed that I needed a coil replacement and all my ducts cleaned - quoting me $3300. My heating and air was working perfectly fine and electric bills were fairly cheap, so I paid the guy for the cleaning and told him I wasn't fixing something that wasn't broke. He tried again to set me up on some sort of payment plan for a brand new unit - which he quoted $9000....I assume these scam artists work on a commission basis.

I recently have had another encounter with these people. I am in the process of selling my home and wouldn't you know Midland Air was selected to come and do the HVAC inspection. Well, what do they recommend, the same thing they tried to pull back in the fall.....duct cleaning and new coil...$3300.

This time I called another heating and air company to give me a second opinion and do an inspection to find out what really was going on. All they found and recommended was that I needed my unit cleaned and maybe a new drainage pan. They couldn't believe what Midland Air was trying to pull.

Midland Air is only trying to take advantage of those people who don't understand or know anything about heating and air. I am also a single woman, so I think they thought I was an easy one to scam.

Crooks and a Rip Off!. When my husband and I called Midland Heating and Air regarding our unit freezing up, they sent a tech out immediately. When the Tech arrived he went straight up stairs to the the air-handler. Not 2 minutes after being up there he states "oh no". He then comes down and said we have mold in the air handler and that we need a whole new unit. He starts to show us the units and recommends that we get a $9000 unit for a house that is only 1200sq. He talks to us and explains that they have a finance program and that no matter what our financial history is we will qualify for a loan. He then tells us that he is going to waive the service fee because we are buying a whole new unit, and that if we decided not to we will have to pay his sales manager who was on the way out to do all the paper work so that our unit could be installed. When the Sales manager arrived we found to our disappointment that financing was not an option. I explained to the Sales Manager that we were told we would have to pay a service call fee, and he then reported, "you know what, I will write this up as an estimate, so you don't owe anything.' We thanked him graciously at the same time worried about what we were going to do! With in 10 mins of him leaving we received a call from the service tech stating we did not pay him and he wanted me to give him my credit card information. He then charged us $79.00 for absolutely nothing! A week has went by and we have been in the cold since. Unsure of what to do a friend recommend I call Comfort Services for a second opinion. The came out almost immediately, the service tech took a look at the outside unit first and explained that the Defrost Board was bad and needed to be replaced, I then mentioned that the Tech from Midlands stated we had mold and needed a whole new unit. Upon his inspection he stated it was dirt... When I asked if he was sure, he asked if the Tech had tested it for mold or just told us. I explained that he just told us. Putting 2 and 2 together it was easy to realize that Midland Air was only trying to sell a unit by taking advantage of those that don't understand. In the end, we do have heat and air which cost us $114 with Comfort Services! I hope and pray that no one else slips into the same trap that we almost fell into.
