Tips for Midtown Family Medicine

I had to intervene for my daughter who lives in Columbia and woke up sick this AM- took the day off from work and called at 10:30a for an appt or advice. She called me at 3p and said she "still hadnt heard back" from the Drs office and so I called the office to inquire. First, they said they had no record of her being a pt or even calling. It was only when I supplied her DOB twice and her SS# that they found her in their system and a record of her call. The nurse said, "well she probably didnt answer her phone" but admitted they didnt call her back b/c she "called at 10:30 and then we go to lunch and take care of out pts...." At that point I told her that I worked in healthcare in Pgh and her defensiveness and generalization that she "prob didnt answer her phone" was a poor excuse for them not responding to her call. I added that my dtr was "by her phone" and wouldve answered HAD THEY CALLED HER BACK- which they didnt. She then told me she would call my dtr and hung up. Really? How do the people in this office get away w/ this kind of behavior ? It is unacceptable in this day and age to not be treated w/ respect and needless to say, my dtr is changing PCP's.

I had an appointment scheduled which required blood work being done a week earlier. Upon checking out, I wanted to confirm my appointment. Imagine my surprise to learn there was no appointment for me in the computer since my doctor was no longer employed there. No notice, no letter, no nothing. I suppose I was just supposed to show up and sit there for the

day til they could fit me in. I was not a happy camper.

This was by far the worst experience I have ever had at any office! I wasn't greeted upon walking up to the front desk even though two employees were standing at the window chatting, so I just signed in and had a seat. I had to sit in the uncomfortable waiting room (with the most God-awful wallpaper print I've ever seen) for much longer than I intended. The physician I was seeing scheduled at least 5 appointments for the same time slot as mine! There were so many that eventually they put up a sign at the desk to sign in at another window if seeing that particular physician. One desk attendant in particular was quite rude to some of the patients and her co-worker. I didn't care for her attitude at all. The gentleman behind the desk (who happened to be employee of the quarter) was quite helpful and nice. A nurse walked out and mumbled my name. I thought she may have called me but wasn't sure so I didn't leap up and run over. She again stated my name, but quite a bit louder and with a lot more attitude. I was sure to let her know that I didn't understand her first mumble. She led me into a patient room and asked me to have a seat. I did so, but then decided I should probably stand because there was an overwhelming stench of urine in the room. I refused to touch anything even when the doctor walked in. He seemed puzzled, called in the nurse and she seemed upset that I didn't want to sit and promptly copped yet another attitude with me. It's a clinical setting for crying out loud - anything that smells of urine has probably been urinated upon and should therefore be cleaned or disposed of! I agreed to sit on the paper-covered exam bench (only after making sure it was not yellow or wet!) and thankfully had a quite brief visit with the physician. I won't comment on him since he is performing a procedure on me tomorrow and I'd rather survive it. He was genuinely nice, though. I was moved to some random exam/x-ray/phlebotomy/torture room to escape the urine smell. The shelves were in disarray, cabinet doors were unhinged or broken and there was a general unsanitary feeling to the room. I almost reminded me of something you would see in a movie showing a clinic in a third world country. Ok, maybe a little extreme, but there are definitely some simple improvements that could be made to make this office see more professional. Start with the staff. Jesus, how hard is it to smile? Patients probably don't feel very well and aren't happy to be spending major bucks to catch your crappy attitude! Also, a little Lysol can go a long way! In my opinion, a doctor's office isn't clean if the smell of Lysol doesn't knock me on my butt as I walk in the door. Anyway, down off my soapbox. Be careful of this place! If I had to have any actual lab work or procedures done I would definitely seek another office!

This entire office is the most unprofessional practice I have ever had the misfortune of visiting. Not only will one have to wait at least 45 minutes past their appointment time to be called back, once in a patient room one is treated like a piece of trash stuck to the MA's shoe. Referrals are made to the wrong specialist, phone calls are not returned, files are not updated. The lab is a joke as well. Paperwork and lab results should not be done and handled where another patient can see. Not once have I ever been asked to verify my name and DOB when blood was taken. The only receipt given to me ever was my credit card receipt. I went for a two week follow up for test results and the MA asked "Why are you here today?" I almost walked out. When I told her, she gave a deep sigh and said "Well, I have to go find them so you're going to have to wait." Um, excuse me? Shouldn't the doctor have already seen them and the results be in my file? As soon as the second round of test results are in, I will find another doctor.

Great place for my kids. Being a military we kind of just go where they tell us to go so I was leery about having to drive downtown from the northeast just for a pediatrician. But the staff there is so nice. They always remembered my daughter and even how long since our last visit. They were always helpful on the phone if I needed nurses advice. Our pediatrician was knowledgable and very personable. She had excellent bedside manner. It may not be a fancy or flashy docs office but they definitely care about their patients and the staff was genuinely sad when they switched us back to the hospital on Ft. Jackson for care. I really miss this office.

Excellent Experience. I almost did not try this office, after reading the negative reviews. But because it's within cycling distance to my home, I thought I would give it a try. Every aspect was surprisingly excellent. Very nice waiting room, went into my appointment right on time, had an excellent doctor (Watson) who took the time needed to talk and understand my health issue. I would highly recommend their care.

Worst doctor's care I've ever recieved. First off, I waited an hour for my appointment.

Secondly, I have pretty good health coverage and I came out of a physical (basic blood test, chest x-ray, and talked to the doctor for about 5 minutes) with a $400 bill. RIDICULOUS!

I have since wanted to change doctors, but wanted copies of my medical records from the physical. I have to go to the office, pay $20 for copies and then wait 3 weeks for them to mail them to me.

Do not go here. Trust me...I didn't believe these reviews until I went.

This place is terrible. The employees and doctors who work at this place are either a bunch of crooks or just plain incompetent. Its filled with doctors who finished at the bottom of their med school who don't know their a$$ from their elbow, and employees who's stupidity is matched only by their bad attitudes and lack of professionalism.

Consider yourself warned.

We need someone to moniter our doctors. I met with a doctor at this facility for a complete checkup as I prepared to go aboard. This doctor gave me a digital with what seem like with a pencil. Hw went so far as rupture the wall of my intestine. This is pitiful and shameful and a disgrace to the medical profession.

I just dont trust them. I just don’t trust the doctors here. I don’t recommend using this practice. I gave them several chances to prove to me that they earned their MD but when it interferes with my health, I don’t think any doctor’s office should be given another chance to do their job.
