All of the other reviews for Island Tan really seem to sum the place up. I was extremely satisfied, as it sounds like everyone else was. I just wanted to add my two cents worth in. I am 8 months pregnant and have a July 4th party to go to with my husband at Lake Murray. It is with ALL of the employees at the HUGE company that he works for here in Columbia. Okay, getting the visual in your head yet of a real pregnant, pale, bloated, not so "happy camper" in a swim suit in the heat all day? Yes, that would be me! So, I asked my OB-GYN if I could fake bake it...ofcourse he said no. He actually recommended that I go get a Sunless Tan, and even had a business card for Island Tan. I got it this morning, took the 6-hour-later shower just now, and it looks great. It looks so good that I cried when I put my swim suit on, because now I feel like I can go to the party, relax, have fun, and feel pretty. Oh great, i'm crying again! Anyway, if you are skeptical about getting a Spray tan, don't be. It is safe and looks exactly like a real outside tan. The spray-girl was real helpful and sweet and made me feel at home. I think i'll do it again the next time I have to put on a bathing suit for a party, it makes you feel so much better.
Pros: Safe, fast, realistic

My best friend convinced me to get a Spray Tan with her yesterday, against my better judgement. I am a red head, with freckles, and milky white skin. It would take me 2 months of every-other-day tanning, in the tanning bed, to build a base tan. To get a base tan with the real sun outside, forget-about-it, I would just be bed ridden for a week with a painful burn, then peel, then tons of regrets! Everybody wants beautiful tanned skin, and I have, too many times in the past fallen victim to the latest and (supposedly) greatest bronzer products at the drugstores that claim to be streak-free, flawless, easy-to-use, etc. They never are!! Why? Why do they have to lie??? So, needless to say, I was pretty nervous about having yet another bad experience with a weeks worth of orange-streaked skin. We got our tans sprayed on at Island Tan, and were told to wait 6 hours to shower. I thought "Oh, Lord, what will I look like in 6 hours? A Pumpkin? LOL". After the 6 hours were up, I showered, and now I am a Sun-Bronzed-Goddess!! It looks like I went to the beach. I was a total disbeliever in the possibility of ever having a tan again, but now I can wear shorts, go to the river with my friends, and they won't get to make jokes about my legs "blinding them". Oh, and if they ever read this, (and they'll know who they are) thanks for thinking that that joke never gets old! Thanks IslandTan for the awesome tan! I will be back, and will tell all of my friends about you.
Pros: I went from Paste white to Sun Bronzed Goddess in less than 10 minutes! YAY!!
Cons: I wish I had known about this place a long time ago.

I needed a tan for my outside wedding in Charleston. I was so busy planning the wedding, that I waited until the last minute to get started on my tanning. My bride's maids appearantly forgot to consider how they would look, pale skin in the mint green dresses they were wearing! A friend told me that I should look in to the spray tan option. It's not harmful to your skin, and you don't have to build up the tan. I called all over town. Every DaySpa, every Tanning Salon in the phone book. I didn't want to get into a spray booth. I had heard too many horror stories about bad spray tans from them. I couldn't find any place that had the spray tan machine, that a technician actually sprayed on you. So, I asked and asked around, and finally a lady at the bank said her tan was a spray tan, she had gotten them weekly for over a year at Island Tan. She said she loved it! She looked up the number in the phone book for me, but there was no listing for them in the Yellow Pages. That explained why I had missed them in my search for a spray tan! I drove down to 5Pts and found them behind Tripp's Cleaners. The lady working at the time was the exact person that does the "spraying". She explained to me everything that I needed to do before my appointment, what I needed to bring to change into afterwards, and all of the other things that I needed to know to make the tan last longer. I booked my 1st of 2 appointments for the next day. My wedding was 10 days away, so I wanted to try it with enough time for it to exfoliate, then if I liked it, get it done right before my "Big Day". Well I got my first one done and it was SO AMAZING! It looked like I had been to the beach! It was NOT orange or streaky. It was beautiful!! A few nights later I had a Bridal Shower. All of my bridesmaids loved my tan SO much, that we all booked appointments for 2 days before my wedding. It was like a big "Spray Tan Party" up in the Island Tan. We all looked stunning! Made for great wedding photos! Loved It!!
Pros: Amazing Spray Tan System. Highly Skilled Technician. Very Professional.
Cons: N/A

I have tanned all over Columbia! You could say that I am a tanning expert! The large Corporate Salons are unfriendly, impersonal, and they just want to get into your bank account for the next 12+ months!! Island Tan is hidden away, tucked behind the Eckerd's (now Rite-Aid) in 5-Points, and is a real find, once you stumble upon it. I was recommended to them by ALL of the girls on my hall at U.S.C. They were right!! The staff was SO friendly, knowledgable, and there packages were the most reasonable!! They have a bunch of different levels of equipment for all different tanning needs! I learned more about tanning from them than anywhere i've ever tanned. No one had ever bothered to tell me the importance of lotion or explained to me why I need to wear my eyewear everytime I tan. They even helped me get rid of my SunSpots....every other salon had acted like they had never seen a tanner w/ SunSpots! I highly recommend that you stop in for your next tan.
Pros: Great Service! Parking! Great Packages and Specials! Most friendly staff ever!!
Cons: Location is hard to find. (Turn into the Rite-Aid parking lot and take a right onto Pavillion Ave)
