At Home: New York

  1. Gotham Bar & Grill

    12 E 12th St, New York, NY
"The mere fact that it's been around over 20 years says a great deal. Chef Alfred Portale added a new definition to American cuisine. It's fresh and contemporary without coming across as stark or off-putting."

  2. Per Se

10 Columbus Cir, 4th Fl, New York, NY
"Of course they are a marvelous restaurant, but the bar is also very nice with lovely views into the park. They have a wonderful namesake cocktail with a spicy, gingery taste."

  3. Rizzoli Bookstore Midtown

    31 W 57th St, New York, NY
"They specialize in art, photography and design books. The books are gorgeous and so is the environment. Whenever I'm feeling in the doldrums, this place just picks me up."

  4. John Bartlett Menswear

    450 W 15TH St Ste 400, New York, NY
"For the traditionally minded man who still wants to look modern and hip. They feature slim tailoring and conventional ties but the color combinations give them punch."

  5. Banana Republic

111 8th Ave, New York, NY
"As you may or may not know, I'm a big Banana Republic fan. I can afford it, I can wear it off the rack, and in terms of the men's clothing, it has just enough edge to keep it from being stodgy and conservative. I'm addicted!"

  6. Parsons The New School For Design

    2 E 91ST St, New York, NY
"My heart and soul remain at Parsons in many ways. I've spent 25 years at this incredible school. You really can't tell the history of lifestyle design--and by that I mean fashion, interior design and product design--without telling the story of Parsons. We were the first school of design to offer programs in those areas. Consequently, we got an early leadership in developing those industries. It's a thrilling place to be."

  7. Hudson River Park

Hudson River to West Side Hwy, New York, NY
"It's a whole stretch of promenade along the Hudson from 59th street to Battery Park. It's a great place to walk and clear your head and take in the smell of the water. There are bicyclists and rollerbladers with separate tracks, so you don't feel like you’re putting your life at risk by walking down there! It's very head-clearing. It's about as close as I get to a religious experience. That's where I go to have a real park experience."

On the Road

  1. W Chicago Lakeshore

644 N Lake Shore Dr, Chicago, IL
"I would be perfectly content to spend every day while in Chicago at the W Hotel. They have a great restaurant and the service is wonderful. I stayed there three days recently and had every meal there."

  2. Roof Bar at the Standard Downtown

550 S Flower St, Los Angeles, CA
"For cocktails you can't go wrong with either location of The Standard. Both are great bars, one right by the pool, and the other with views of the city from the rooftop."

  3. Drake Hotel

140 E Walton Pl, Chicago, IL
"I love to have drinks at The Drake; you can't beat the ambiance. It has such history and old-worldliness to it."

  4. Alden-Houston

    1117 Prairie St, Houston, TX
"I've stayed there the last three times I've been in Houston; the rooms are gorgeous and the service is fantastic. I really enjoy their room service too."

  5. Kodak Theatre

    6801 Hollywood Blvd, Hollywood, CA
"Working the red carpet, you essentially just stay in one spot, but this is a great location. I can't help but have an out-of-body experience at these award events--it's absolutely surreal!"

  6. Four Seasons Hotel

300 S Doheny Dr, Los Angeles, CA
"I just love the unbridled luxury of it all."
